Route along paths that run through a mountainous area, including some viewpoints that provide wonderful views over the north of Madeira Island. The viewpoints not to be missed are the Ninho da Manta Viewpoint and the Pico Ruivo Viewpoint. Remember to arrange transport at the end of this route, as it takes an hour to drive to the start of the trail, or you can return along the same route you.

On a cloudy day, this section of the hike is incredibly moody and dramatic, which is why it has become my absolute favourite part of the PR1 hike from Pico Do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo.
